As kettle grills grew in popularity, people began to devise methods to grill indirectly, smoke on the kettle and so much more. Hundreds of innovators have created add-ons to improve and expand on the capabilities of the classic kettle grill.

Kamado Joe, recognizing that add-ons have their limitations, took a fresh approach to the kettle so that direct and indirect grilling and smoking were native to the design. No more add-ons; the Kettle Joe is designed from the ground up to be effective in each of these cooking styles.

Start with the aesthetic – a streamlined grill body with a respectable cart and folding sides shelves built-in. Add to that a hinged lid and a slide out ash drawer to complete the Kettle Joe. The temperature management method was taken directly from the Kamado grills, so the main air intake is controlled by the bottom damper with fine control maintained at the cap. The ceramic firebox improves on the standard kettle design by increasing heat retention and decreasing fuel consumption.

Direct and indirect grilling capabilities are enhanced with the 2-level grill grate system. The lowest position gets you close to the coals for high temp grilling. The raised position moves you further from the coals to reduce the impact of direct heat. To smoke on the Kettle Joe, you simply install the SloRoller system. This patented system delivers immersive smoke and raises the cooking grate further from the coal bed, which reduces the radiant heat and improves the smoking process.”
