Penicillin
super easy
So-called healing properties, I don’t think so. But it might stop you catching a germ , the Penicillin. This is a late evening dwinkie to keep you warm, wait for it, by warming it up, literally, with warm cider sweetened with honey. The whisky gets a lift from a fiery ginger beer, and added vitamin C for good measure from fresh lemon. This is perfect for keeping warm when the sun has long gone down or maybe has just come up. But I think we used to call this a hot toddy.
Serves 1, so double up for 2
- 50ml Good Whisky or good Rum does work too
- 50ml good dry cider such as Aspalls Draught with a spoonful of honey
- Juice of half a lemon
- Ginger beer, good and fiery such as Bundaberg
- Slice of Apple and a Cinnamon stick to garnish – optional.
Fill a glass or cup with warm water to warm it up.
Warm the cider, add the honey. You literally want to just warm it, not make it hot.
Empty the cup or glass, pour in the warmed cider, add your Whisky, lemon juice and ginger beer and cosy up.
